Each year, The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee awards education scholarships to qualified applicants attending: College, Community College, Vocational/Technical School or University.

 

Jewish Education Loan Funds: JELF awards interest-free, need-based, last-dollar loans for higher education to full- time students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate and vocational programs. JELF, in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, will accept applications in September from students attending school full-time spring and/or summer semesters and in March for students attending school full-time for fall/winter/spring semesters. 

 

Applications for interest-free loans for higher education (college, graduate school and vocational programs) are available to Jewish students in your area for the 2017-2018 school year from JELF (Jewish Educational Loan Fund).  

From March 1 – April 30 (and from September 1 – September 30), the loan application is available on JELF’s website at JELF.org.

 



The B'nai B'rith Gulf Coast Lodge Number 2004 offers three $500 scholarships to applicants who meet general requirements.

 



The Jacqueline Siegel-Frascella College Scholarship Fund (One $5,000 award annually). Applicant must be actively involved in sports or dance and have maintained at least a C or above in academic achievement. Applicant must have financial need and involvement in the Jewish Community. A personal interview is required.

 


Melissa Wides Foundation Education Scholarship
Eligible candidates will be pursuing undergraduate studies in a 2 or 4-yr college, university or vocational program, have demonstrated financial need and documented psychological, physical, behavioral or emotional limitations.  Also considered will be students majoring in an area of study which will in some way assist special needs individuals, such as Psychiatry, Psychology or Social Work.  Students with a strong work ethic who are committed to contributing financially to their education and who give back to their community in a meaningful way are desirable candidates.

 


 

Michelson Interfaith Scholarship Fund

  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student in the next academic year at a university, college, community college or vocational/technical school.
  • The applicant and his/her parent(s) must have resided full-time in Sarasota or Manatee County for the past two years, as of the application deadline.
  • The primary consideration for these scholarships is financial need. However, a good academic record, religious involvement in community service activities are evaluated as well. 
  • Priority will be given to students that demonstrate an interest in promoting interfaith relations.
  • Applications must be received prior to deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. 
  • Scholarship recipients are required to write to the Scholarship Committee and thank them. The Federation is authorized to publicize the names of scholarships recipients and reproduce copies of their thank-you letters.

 



The Ned and Janet Sinder Scholarship Trust is available to any home-schooled students or high school seniors, anticipating graduation from a school or program and plan to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution. Three $4,000 awards for first-year students; three $4,000 awards for second-year students. A personal interview is required.

 


 

Ronald and Geri Yonover Scholarship Fund is available to applicants pursuing an undergraduate degree at a four-year college.

 



The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee Scholarship Fund has provided over $400,000 in additional awards over the past 10 years.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Applicant must be seeking enrollment as an undergraduate student in the next academic year at a university, college, or community college.
  •  The applicant and his/her parent(s) must have resided full-time in Sarasota or Manatee County for the past two years, as of the application deadline.
  •  These scholarships are available only to those of the Jewish faith. The primary consideration for these scholarships is financial need. However, a good academic record, involvement in Jewish activities and community service will be evaluated.
  •  Applications must be received prior to deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. 
  •  Scholarship recipients are required to write thank you letters to the family that established the scholarship (if applicable)  and the scholarship committee. Recipients must send copies of the thank you letters to Federation in order to receive the scholarship. The Federation is authorized to publicize the names of scholarships recipients and reproduce copies of their thank-you letters.


Scholarships applications are reviewed by the Federation’s Scholarship Committee, chaired by Marsha Eisenberg.
