A FIRM STAND AGAINST ANTI-SEMITISM

The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee takes a firm stand against anti-Semitism in all its forms, as it is manifested domestically and overseas. The Federation will muster its resources and influence to combat what it believes is a rise in anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism sentiments, which often result in aggressive acts and rhetoric against Jews. We draw a red line, as we do not allow for compromise when it comes to hatred of Jews. There are not nuances to anti-Semitism and The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee considers it a virulent ill. Furthermore, we feel a strong sense of urgency in combating this ever increasing threat.

As the world’s Jewish population is restored to its pre-Holocaust level, the rhetoric and acts of violence against it multiply at an alarming rate. Global anti-Semitism reaches epidemic proportion. Jews were harassed in 24 of 45 European countries while anti-Semitic harassment worldwide reached a seven-year high in 2014.

1.09 BILLION People in the world today harbor anti-Semitic attitudes according to an Anti-Defamation League commissioned survey of attitudes toward Jews in over 100 countries around the world. Seventy years after the Holocaust, anti-Semitism is again growing more virulent in Europe. From Toulouse to Paris, London to Berlin, Brussels to Copenhagen, Jews are being harassed, assaulted and even killed.

ACT AGAINST

ANTI-SEMITISM

Advocate for:

First, all governments must protect the lives and religious freedom of their Jews, their synagogues and other communal sites.

Second, all governments and citizens must condemn the language of hatred whether emanating from street masses or head of states. They must hold foreign leaders accountable for their words. As an example, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran describing Israel as the “sinister, unclean rabid dog of the region” and its leaders “look like beasts and cannot be called human” must be condemned and sanctioned.

Third, Jewish and Interfaith organizations, religious, civic and political organizations must take an advocacy stand against all forms of anti-Semitism.
