Every two years, the Giving Challenge brings our community together for a powerful 24 hours of generosity and impact. Hosted by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with generous support from The Patterson Foundation, this region-wide day of online giving empowers thousands of community members to support the non-profit organizations that strengthen and sustain our region.
For the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee (JFSM), the Giving Challenge is an opportunity for our community to invest in key programs that help shape the next generation, including Camp Yonnie, our Jewish day camp. Thanks to the vision and generosity of Ron and Geri Yonover, Camp Yonnie launched in 2024 as a full-summer Jewish day camp designed to welcome children of all backgrounds and faiths.
At Camp Yonnie, each day is filled with moments that inspire connection, strengthen identity, and create lasting memories. Campers make art, play sports, learn about one another, and participate in high-quality educational activities that spark curiosity and imagination. Through group activities, field trips, color war, and opportunities to experience Israeli culture, children develop confidence, teamwork, perspective, and friendships that last long after summer ends.
In a time when families are navigating rising tensions, division, and uncertainty, the opportunity to experience the simple joy of being a camper has never been more valuable. Camp provides a safe, welcoming space where children can unplug from the stress of current events and instead focus on friendship, creativity, and discovery. Surrounded by caring mentors and positive role models, campers are able to build confidence, develop resilience, and experience a sense of belonging. These moments of normalcy: laughing with friends, trying something new, and feeling part of a supportive community can have a lasting impact during times when stability and connection matter most.
